May Challenge - Flowers and Ribbons

Hello everyone, Susan here...

As you know, this month's theme is "Flowers and Ribbons"!
This theme really lends itself to card-making!

This month I particularly wanted to use the following items - some pretty papers, two beautiful floral stamps and some floral dies that are used with the 'Sizzix Big Shot'. I use my 'Big Shot' all the time!!

These are the cards that I have made to show you...

All four cards start with a pre-folded Hero Hues Card blank. These are available in a variety of colours and here I have used red, white, black and green. These produce a card with a 4.25 by 5.5 inch front.
I matted each card with plain or patterned paper,
cut from the paper pad,  to leave just a small edge around each card (4 by 5.25 in).

Each card was then embellished with a motif made using one of the two stamps
and further embellished with ribbons and die-cuts.

Ribbons are really useful when it comes to card making -
here is a selection from American Crafts which I have used in these cards.

In the first card the background stamp was used to emboss some white cardstock. Shapes were cut from it using the 'Framelits' dies. The various pieces were then coloured with distress inks -
the 'emboss resist' technique.
Some of the pieces were replaced, some of them were placed on dimensionals.
Some of the holes were left for the paper to peep through.

Here the ribbon is in two pieces - a piece wrapped around the paper and a small piece tied on to it.

The second card is very similar but here the ribbon is threaded and knotted through
holes punched through the green base paper.

Comparing these first two cards, they basically use the same techniques
but different colour ways, layout and ribbon styles produce a quite different effect.

Moving on to two different cards using the second stamp 'Leafy Vines' -

Firstly, a card where a piece of cardstock has been coloured with distress inks
(Wrinkle free Distress Technique)
and then overstamped in black to link up with the card blank.

The card has then been cut to an interesting shape using a die and the Big Shot.
Flowers have been made using the floral dies, the pieces layered and
buttons (tied with twine) added from my button box.

The ribbon here is just a straight piece adhered around the card.

For my final card, the stamp was coloured with markers, spritzed with a mister
and then stamped onto water colour paper. It was cut to shape using one of the 'framelits' dies.
The edges were distressed, and to make it stand out even more,
it was matted on a further piece of paper before adhering to the base.

Two ribbons were tied together to make a double bow.

Happy Crafting!
